At Hope’s Gate we believe the training we bring not only gives these young men and women a life-skill they can use to earn an income, but it also gives them a sense of accomplishment and a hope for a future beyond their regular educational studies.
Jewelry makers and designers partner with Hope’s Gate and travel to the rescue homes to spend several days in concentrated training so that quality jewelry is produced and then sold in the US. 100% of our profits are used to make a difference in the lives of at risk people and to support the shelters they live in.
On a recent visit to India, we interviewed a group of young women who shared about the time in their lives of living in hunger and fear on the streets before coming to the rescue shelter. The highlight was hearing how much they love making jewelry. Vijaya* said she is saving her earnings for college. They are earning approximately eight times what they would in another job, and they are able to make jewelry when they have free time, after their studies are done.
