When Teena was 12 years old, she wanted to be a doctor. Her uncle had a terrible gambling debt, so he asked her parents if he could take Teena to a carnival but instead sold her for $250 to a pimp to cover his debt. When her uncle returned, he told her parents that she had run away. After years of sexual exploitation, she was finally rescued. When she arrived at the door of her house, her parents learned the truth of what happened, but instead of embracing her, they rejected her out of shame. Teena is now in a safe house where our jewelry project is giving Teena and young women like her dignity and hope.
