Meet One of our Artisans in Thailand

Paw, meaning "flower" in her native language, is from Thailand’s Karen tribe, known for its intricate weaving traditions using backstrap looms and natural dyes. This craft has been passed down through generations. Paw's life took a challenging turn when, at just 17, she was married and spent five years in an abusive relationship. Fleeing with her two young children, she sought refuge in the city, where she worked as a domestic helper and began collaborating with a local seamstress. Passionate about sewing, Paw dreams of creating full-time and sending her children to university. Today, she’s gaining independence, confidence, and hope for a brighter future.

The Story of Hope's Gate

Hope’s Gate was founded in 2011 after Patty Bauman traveled to India and witnessed the heartbreaking realities faced by orphans, street children, and survivors of human trafficking. Moved to act, she partnered with shelters and safe houses, launching a jewelry initiative to create sustainable change.

What began with humble materials has grown into a powerful mission—empowering vulnerable individuals through skill development, dignified work, and the creation of beautiful, handcrafted products. Every piece tells a story of hope, resilience, and transformation.
